| – Oh my gosh, New Years Eve in Las Vegas is like nothing, NOTHING that you have ever encountered before. Well, maybe if you have been to Time Square in New York but I haven’t been and this was incredible. No words can tell Page 55 you how it really was. I am just going to tell you how I saw it and my thoughts and feelings. I am going to have to take all day to write this, for a couple of reasons. The first being that there is so much to write about and second is that we didn’t get home until 4:30am – Jan 1, 2010 and I am really tired!! Too much for this old lady. We left the RV Park about 6pm so that we could catch the city bus to the Strip. We certainly weren’t going to drive in that congestion. Good choice – the city blocks off blocks and blocks and even the freeway during the New Years Eve celebration!! We got on the city bus and it took us within 6 blocks of the Strip. Nice long walk but that was fine. Once we got to the Strip there were already throngs of people all over. We walked from Bally’s towards the Mirage. We stopped in some of the Casinos just to see what was going on and just sit and rest a bit. We stood on the balcony of Venetian and watched the volcano at the Mirage, go off at 9:00pm. At this point I suggested to Danny that maybe we didn’t want to stay here til midnight, we might just want to go back to the RV Park. We decided that we would just walk around a little more and see what was going on. It was so cold out. I had my Disney parka with hood, thank you Rileigh, my gloves and a scarf and I was still freezing. The cold just cut through my jacket and my pants. Danny had on his heavier coat but it wasn’t enough to keep too warm but he did have a long sleeve shirt on. We spent some hours in the Venetian and the Mirage just walking around. The Casinos had so many people in them. A big change from just before Christmas when we were here. We spend at total of $6.00 on the “penny machines” last night. That was a lot for us! LOL. At about 11:20pm we decided we needed to leave the Mirage and head out in to the street. We fought the crowds and found a spot against the fence and there we stood. We could see Treasure Island, Mirage, and Planet Hollywood, and then turning around we could see Belligio, and the rest of the casinos down the Strip. We met a really nice couple from the UK. She told us that last year she was in the hospital and her son told them when she got better he would send them to Las Vegas for New Years Eve. Well, they were there enjoying the people and the sights. They told us they would never do it again, but were glad they got to be there one time. People started whooping, blowing horns, whistles and yelling about 11:45pm and they just got louder and louder. Treasure Island shot off a “trial” fireworks and boy did that get everyone going and then the count down came – 30 –29 and so on. People were yelling and yelling and making lots and lots of noise. The lights of the casinos started blinking and the fireworks started. We videoed it. They were spectacular and they went on for 15 minutes. Page 56 Now, the trick, leave and head towards Bally’s where we had to catch the “free” city bus transportation. I never saw so many people in my life. It seemed ½ of us were going one way and the other half were going against us. There was lots and lots of rude and obnoxious people and most of them were very drunk. They pushed and we pushed and the going was very slow. We finally got out of the mess on the other side of Bally’s and talked to a police officer and asked him if there was an easier way to get to the bus stops and he said “no”. So off we headed into that throng of people again. It seemed to me that were many more broken bottles, confetti, and trash on the street in this area compared to up by the Mirage. There were still lots of people drinking and yelling and celebrating! We finally got to a place where the people thinned out and we made our way to the 1st bus stop. We figure we have now walked about 5 miles! There are way too many people at this bus stop. We are going to have to wait here for another 2 or 3 hours before we can catch the bus. We make the decision to keep on walking to the next stop. Well, that darn stop was another mile and when we got there there was about 30 people waiting. As we walked to that stop we passed friends dragging their friends along because they were either too drunk to stand or walk, or one girl was completely passed out and 3 friends were trying to help her. Don’t think that was going to work. As we walked down the road we saw ambulances running about every 5-7 minutes. They were so very busy. We waited at the 2nd bus stop for about 40 minutes and no bus. The crowd of people waiting for the bus was growing. We looked up the street and saw red lights flashing, ambulance lights flashing. People started fighting at the bus stop so Danny said that his country boy knowledge said for us to leave now and we did. We started walking to the next bus stop, another mile or so down the road. Fights were breaking out in the street and on the sidewalk so Danny held my hand tighter and lead me into Terrible’s Casino. It was crowed but we made our way to the restroom and then upstairs to the café. We put our name on the list and put $2.00 in the penny slots and waited for our name to be called. It is now 2:30am! Our name was called in about 10 minutes so we ate breakfast. It was really good and we were able to just relax and get warm. The coffee was great and warmed me up. After we ate we headed for the bus stop. It is now 3: 30am and there are about 15 people waiting for the bus. We waited about 25 minutes. We thought we might have to call a cab but the bus did come finally. It took us to the last bus stop on his route and that meant that we had another 3 or 4 miles to walk. My goodness, we are walking off the breakfast we ate! We walk to Nellis Ave. and turn left. I saw “Sams Town RV Resort” in lights and was so pleased because that meant that our resort was next door. Well, let me tell you, driving in the car from Sams Town RV to Las Vegas Resort is fast, but walking takes a long time! These blocks are much longer than most! Page 57 HERE WE ARE!! YIPEE!! WE MADE IT!! Now all we have to do is prove to the security guard we are staying here and then off we go. Sure would have been nice if we had a space right in front but noooooo we have a space farther in the back. We finally unlock the door at 4:30am – Jan. 1, 2010. All I wanted to do was go to the bathroom, and jump in bed and get warm. I don’t remember much after that except when I woke up at 7:33am and said “Oh no, I have only slept 2 hours, I am not waking up yet!” and fell back to sleep until 10:30am. We had a cup of coffee and watched some news, ate the left over breakfast that we brought home and here we are. Think if we rest we will DRIVE downtown Las Vegas and see if we can view the Frontier Lazer Light show. It was such a NIGHT!!
