Sun. Jan. 7, 2010 – Moving Day.  We are heading to Ramona to the Western
Horizon RV Resort. Neither of us have ever been there so this is a true new adventure.

Today it is not hard to get packed up and ready to go since we spent the night in the
parking lot and didn’t unpack anything.  So within ½ hour we are off.  We want to get
moving before the rain comes today.

The road to Ramona is thru the back country and some small towns.  We enjoy the
scenery and the country look.  It isn’t that far and we get to Ramona RV park about noon.

We check in with Jean and she tells us about the park and the area and also they have a
“superbowl board” and we spend $2.00 to see if we can win a few.  We get assigned out
site #109 and we head out.  Our site is on the back row, kind of on a hill.  Danny puts this
rig in place so very easily.  We level it and put the tire covers on and then Danny does his
stuff outside and I get the inside unpacked.  This really doesn’t take very long anymore.
Kind of use to what needs to be done.

One we get unpacked and hooked up we get a little lunch and relax.  Danny has hooked
up the satellite dish so I get to watch the pre superbowl shows.  We don’t get internet or
cell phone service here – kind of a bummer.  I think we were both looking forward to
getting on the internet.  Oh well, we will just have to go to Denny’s or the library but I think
we can get internet at the club house.  We will see.

After relaxing for awhile we walk to the club house and see what is going on.  They are
watching the super bowl so we find a couple of chairs and join the group.  Darn, seems
like everyone in the room was rooting for the Saints, and there were only a few of us for
the Colts.  Too bad the Colts lots but I guess it was a nice thing that the Saints won for a
change.  Maybe next year.
After the game we headed home and were so tired we just went to bed.

Goodnight from Ramona.

Mon. Jan. 8, 2010 – This morning we have to go to Ramona and get some
banking done.  It sure would be easier if we have the internet – oh well.  After we got done
with what we needed to do we took a drive to Escondido and found where the Wild Animal
Park was and the details.  Whoa – it is going to cost $67.00 for the two of us to go.  We
have to give this some thought and pick and chose what we are going to spend our money
on.  Had plenty until we had to fix the generator – if it is not one thing it is another.  Oh well,

Page 81

we will just be picky about what we do and find lots and lots of free stuff to do.  We then
drove into Escondido and looked at the city and then headed back to the rig.  When we
got to Ramona we got some fresh veggies and did the laundry.

While doing the laundry we met a nice lady from the area.  Her name is Brandy.  She
works at the college and lives outside of Ramona on a ranch and has 2 horses.  Enjoyed
talking to her.

We finally got back to the rig about 7:00pm.  When we were doing laundry we ate a burger
so no need to fix dinner tonight.  Tomorrow I have to clean the veggies and freeze the
chicken and burger we bought yesterday.  Oh well, not tonight.

Goodnight from Ramona RV Resort.

Tue. Jan. 9, 2010 – FREE breakfast at Denny’s this morning.
Heard this ad during the super bowl.  I really didn’t hear it but Danny did.  We
figure 10:00am is a good time to go.  So off we went figuring we will have to stand in a long
line.  Well maybe not.  We didn’t have to stand in a line when we were in Pismo and IHOP
gave away a free pancake breakfast.  We park in front and walk right in – no wait.

We had the free  “Grand Slam”., 2 pancakes, 2 eggs (any style), 2 bacon, 2 sausage.  It
was really good- actually it was great for free!!!  Got full and then drove around the area
and headed up the hill past the RV park towards a town called Jullian.  It is an historic little
town.  As we were coming into what we thought was Jullian here comes a hail storm.  It
wasn’t big hail and it didn’t last very long.  We waited it out in the car and then went into
the Jullian Pie Shop and looked around.  They have a great selection of Gooseberry
Cookbooks.  We just looked around and then left and drove back to the RV park.

We went into the office and picked up the weekly calendar of events and asked about the
Valentine’s Dinner on Sunday.  We will probably go to that.

Got the veggies cleaned and put away and the rain came.  It has been raining for about 2
½ hours.  Glad we are up on the hill.

Time to call it a night.  Sweet dreams from Ramona Canyon Creek RV Resort

Sun. Jan 10, 2010 – Saw the sun come up over the mountain in front of us.
It was a beautiful sight.

Page 63

Today we are going into Quartzsite and see what all the fuss is about and what everyone
is talking about.  There are lots and lots or RV’s all around.
Tried to turn on the generator to make coffee and no deal.  Not a sound comes from the
generator like it might be going to work, just a whine.  Crap!!!  Seems like one day I get
$1.00 a head and the next day I am $5.00 behind!!

We ate breakfast the spent over an hour on the phone trying to get someone at the “Good
Sam” insurance section but they are closed on Sunday.  Boy, I will be up early Monday
morning and calling them to find out what kind of coverage we have on the generator.

We head into Quartzsite.  We are NOT going to let this generator thing stop our
adventure.  Everywhere you look there are “tent EZ ups” with old and new stuff.  We are
looking for an antique, a jar opener that goes under the counter and helps open different
sizes of jars.  We had one in the Alfa and Deb loved it and so we are on a mission to see if
we can find one.  The one in the Alfa went with it. That was another thing I should have
remembered to take out – oh well!  I am also looking for some silverware.  I am tired of
plastic forks that keep on breaking.  There is so much to look at – some of it is junk but
most is worth looking at.

When we left the “shopping” area we found a “RV repair place.  Just going to ask how
much it might cost to fix the generator.  We met Kathy, Dan (the owner from Madera) and
Jeremiah.  Danny explained our problem and Jeremiah said he would be out to our
campsite and see what was wrong.  He would be there Monday about 10am.  Everyone
was so nice and friendly – small town friendly.

We came home and had dinner by candlelight outside.  It was so nice.  We cam in, did
dishes and by now its was 7:30pm and dark with nothing to do so we went to bed and
played cards.  I won most of the games, for a change.  We talked for a couple of hours
and then off to sleep.

Goodnight from the dark desert.
Monday, Jan. 11, 2010 – It is 8am and I am on the phone to Good Sam.
Finally got to the customer service area and the generator is covered with $250.00
deductible and the guy said he was sure it would be quit a bit more than $250.00. CRAP.

It is about 10am and Jeremiah called to find out how to get where we are.  Danny went to
meet him and bring him here.

Yup, it is the generator starter.  Thank goodness that was all that it was cuz from what I
have been told it could have been REALLY BAD.  Jeremiah said he needed to go to the
office to get a quote on the parts.  He came back about an hour later and said $365.00.

Page 64

Well we have to have it done so we scheduled an appointment for tomorrow morning to
have it all done.

After we got the quote we headed for downtown Quartzsite.  Just found an area that we
hadn’t seen yet so we walked around  the tents and saw so much stuff.  We did by two
walking sticks and two other things for the motor home.  Still haven’t found my “oven rack”
yet.  Gosh I really hope I find one.

When we got back to the motor home it was dark and we just locked up and went to bed.
Boy, I will be glad when we get the generator and we can have lights and don’t have to go
to bed at 7:30pm!

Goodnight from the desert!!
